Electrical Insulation Panels for Multiple
Applications
Profile extruded panels
(PEP) are versatile, cost-effective
electrical insulation materials made from
Formex™ GK, an advanced formulation of
polypropylene electrical insulation from ITW
Formex®. The panels are lightweight and easy
to fabricate. These UL 94 V-0 rigid panels
are the only viable flame-retardant
polypropylene alternative to glass polyester
(GPO-3) used for electrical insulation and
barrier applications. For considerably lower
cost, PEP materials have a higher dielectric
strength and breakdown compared to GPO-3.
Eco-Friendly Alternative to Glass Polyester
ITW Formex, a division
of ITW, developed these rigid panels as an
environmentally safe (no dust) alternative
to glass polyester. Glass polyester may emit
inhalable glass dust, and it has been known
to cause cuts and irritate skin. In addition
to being eco-friendly, PEP is
easier to handle and install into electrical
cabinets, compared to glass polyester, which
is a heavy, cumbersome material. PEP panels
are easier to fabricate and can
be quickly and easily scored and folded into
various three-dimensional forms to suit the
application without the use of individual
extruded chan nels
and fasters required for glass polyester.
The low-cost panels combined with this
unique manufacturing flexibility provide a
highly cost effective alternate to glass
polyester materials.
Wide Range of Electrical
Insulator Applications
Formex PEP provides
protection between electrical potentials
and/or from electrical shock and short
circuits. The material is an ideal
electrical insulator for a variety of
non-structural applications found in
electrical distribution applications
providing superior electrical protection in
switch gear, motor controls, panel boards,
bus bars, and various electrical cabinets.
