ITW Formex® GK Series of flame retardant dielectric insulation material has enjoyed some of the highest UL insulation material safety ratings for decades. For reference, below is the ITW Formex® GK “UL Yellow Card”.
As a result of recent revisions to UL 746A (Standard for Short-term Properties of Polymeric Materials), the criteria for assigning PLC (Performance Level Categories) values for the Hot Wire Ignition (HWI) test has changed. The analysis of the data places greater emphasis on the material’s ability to resist ignition. ITW Formex® GK products have recently been re-evaluated by UL and proven to not ignite during the HWI test. As a result, ITW Formex® GK’s HWI rating has been upgraded to PLC “0”, the highest HWI safety rating.
